Dr. Troutman delivered many powerful messages that day, and one of the most important for me was moving toward a HEALTH EQUITY framework, beyond the health "disparities" frame. After all, you can reduce disparity gaps by simply making the health of all populations worse (so we're all equally unwell).

He also talked about changing the conversation to the social determinants of equity instead of just the social determinants of health. As he said, (paraphrased), having a healthy underclass is not what we're about. We need equity and justice to truly realize health.
